Study Tips10 Smart Study Tips to Boost Your Learning Effectiveness
Discover proven study techniques that help you understand better, remember more, and score higher.
Studying for longer hours doesn't automatically mean learning more. What separates high scorers from the rest is usually not the number of hours put in, but how those hours are spent. The good news is that the techniques used by top students are well-researched, repeatable and easy to build into a daily routine.
Start with active recall instead of passive re-reading. Close the book and try to write down everything you remember about a topic before checking your notes again — the effort of retrieving information is what strengthens memory, not the act of reading it one more time.
Space your revision out using short, spaced sessions across several days rather than a single long cram session. A quick 20-minute review a day after you first learn something, then again a week later, does far more for long-term retention than repeating a topic five times in one sitting.
Teach what you've learned to someone else, even if it's an imaginary student. Explaining a concept out loud forces you to organise your understanding and quickly reveals the gaps you didn't know you had.
Finally, protect your focus. Put your phone in another room, study in 25–45 minute blocks with short breaks in between, and get enough sleep — memory consolidation happens while you rest, so an all-nighter before an exam usually does more harm than good.
